Valeria Degl’Innocenti was born in Florence in 1914 and died in Casablanca in 2004. A free spirit ahead of her time, she traveled the world and lived a thousand lives.
This book is the manuscript she wrote during her lifetime, few years before she passed away – her « novel », as she called it. She dreamed of sha-ring it with the world, a wish that her family has proudly fulfilled by publishing it in Italy and Morocco. This is the story of her life, Valeria’s book is a dream come true.

Valeria Degl’Innocenti’s life was completely out of phase with her time: a free-spirited rebellious young woman who traveled the world, at a time when a woman’s place was in the home. She had tree children.
She visited countries and conti-nents (Europe, America and Africa) where she gleaned stories and colours.
Her story interweaves with the stories of the places she lived in : the poverty of Florence’s narrow streets in the twenties where houses had no water nor light, the chicory leaves used as lipstick, the Second World war seen from the United States, American McCar-thyism, the exile from Morocco of Mohamed V, the Protectorate and the renewal of Moroccan national identity, to Independence…
